Are you a Sharent?
Sharenting by Definition is the overuse of social media by parents to share content based on their children. It is related to the concept of ‘too much information’
We are very lucky to be around in the era of social media. Especially because social media has made the world much smaller.
Something that happens in the east of the planet spreads all through like wildfire. It’s amazing. Hence our tendencies to share a lot about everything that happens in our lives.
This also applies to our children.
In most cases they are the best things that ever happened to us, so we feel compelled to record their growth and share them.
It is also a way to connect with other parents and discuss our troubles, find comfort in the knowledge that we aren’t the only ones experiencing challenges.
This therefore begs the question:
a. How much sharing is too much sharing?
b. What about our children’s privacy?
Once they are older and cannot seem to understand why a video of them using a potty found it’s home online and this seems to follow them to school and subject them to bullies. As the said parent, how will you handle that?
I feel that at the end of the day the big question is: How much sharing is too much sharing? At what point do you cross over from just a parent to a fully-fledged sharent.
